Permanent Wall Solution
Construction on the permanent wall has begun, and it is expected to be completed on or before September 2025. The wall will be 23 feet tall, constructed of concrete and designed to be in compliance with IEPA standards. We will provide status updates on this site.
While the permanent wall is being completed, a temporary wall will be installed. Installation of temporary sound barriers will be completed in 7-10 days; materials will arrive on site in the next 72 hours. These temporary walls will be mitigate generator noise during our monthly testing activities. Our monthly maintenance runs are being reduced to 15 minutes, and we will only run one generator at a time – max 2 generators a day. We will only run these generators during daytime hours. This will be our temporary maintenance standard until the permanent wall is fully erected. You can find the temporary wall specifications here.
Chiller Noise Mitigation
We will be implementing a modified control sequence on the chillers that will reduce fan and compressor noise during the evening hours. We'll be upgrading acoustic wraps on all chillers. We do have factory installed wraps in place but will supplement these to improve performance. The retrofit activities will begin immediately.
Sound Metering
We are finalizing our plan for exterior sound metering and measurements will be taken once mitigations measures are implemented. We will abide by all IEPA standards, you can review the standards here. The measurement plan and schedule will be shared on this website by the end of May 2025.

Temporary Fix Implementation
We have positive developments to share regarding the transformer issue at our Aurora data center. Our technical team has secured all necessary materials and developed a plan to implement a temporary fix that will allow us to switch to a different transformer and cease generator operations.
Timeline:
- Today, April 25: Work will begin at 4:30 PM CT
- Estimated completion: 10:00 PM CT this evening
- Expected outcome: If the temporary solution works as anticipated, we will be able to turn off the backup generators tonight
This temporary fix is designed to immediately resolve the noise disruption currently affecting our neighbors. While this is not the permanent solution, it will allow us to restore normal operations while we prepare for the final repair of the damaged transformer.
Going Forward:
We will provide advance notice to the city and community before any future generator operations that may be necessary to complete the permanent repair of the damaged transformer.
We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of our neighbors and the City of Aurora as we've worked through this unexpected challenge. We remain committed to being a responsible community partner and minimizing any inconvenience to those around us.
For any questions or concerns, please contact CyrusOne at communities@cyrusone.com
This page will be updated as new information becomes available.

April 24th, 2025
To: City of Aurora Community,
We are writing to provide information regarding the current operation of backup generators at our CyrusOne data center facility located at 2805 Diehl Rd in Aurora. We want to ensure transparency about this situation and address any concerns about the associated noise.
Nature of the Issue:
We are currently experiencing a critical equipment issue with one of our main power transformers. This component is essential for the safe operation of our electrical systems.
Timeline and Current Status:
- Our teams initially identified an equipment issue on April 14, 2025
- After multiple troubleshooting attempts, we determined that the issue requires specialized repair
- On April 21st, we made the decision to utilize backup generators for one data hall while we work toward a solution
- As of April 24, our technical team and specialized vendors are actively developing repair options
Expected Duration:
At this time, we cannot provide a specific completion date as the repair is complex and may require de-energizing a portion of our electrical infrastructure. We are working diligently to resolve this issue as quickly as possible while maintaining service to our customers.
Noise Mitigation:
We understand the noise impact on the surrounding community and are taking all possible measures to minimize disruption. We have activated only the minimum number of generators (9) required to maintain essential operations. Backup generators are only used in times when absolutely necessary to maintain power.
Our Commitment:
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to nearby residents and businesses. We are committed to resolving this issue with the utmost urgency while maintaining transparent communication with the city and community. We will provide updates as our repair plan develops and timelines become more concrete.
